Erasing Kitten Damage

One morning last week I walked into the studio to see paintings scattered about on the floor. This was not the result of earthquakes, the kittens seem to be the culprits. At first I didn't notice any damage, but a closer look revealed some light scratches on the surface. It seems that in an effort to get to the window above, the kittens attempted to climb the paintings leaning against the wall. I'm lucky that the marks didn't go too deep - the underpainting was unscathed. I very lightly sanded the scratched areas and repainted. I've also rearranged all the paintings in the studio so that none of them look, to a kitten's eyes, like the ladder to a view.

The likely suspects.

Great photo of your cats. They look so innocent. I am so glad you were able to fix the painting. It's beautiful!

You didn't know, until now that your paintings had multiple uses! Glad nothing serious happened to them!! Your culprits are pretty darn cute tho!!

What little darlings!

I had a similar mishap just this morning. I had put a painting flat on top of the dresser 'for safe keeping', and the cat decided to jump on the dresser! I rushed in, hearing the noise, and found him standing on the painting, all four paws sinking into the canvas. Luckily there was no damage.

Have a great day, Katherine! Love where you're going with this painting.

Thanks everyone!

Palmer, Melissa, they sure have grown a lot in the last three months.

Diane, they are pretty innocent. If the painting had squealed, I'm sure they'd have been more careful.

Kathryn, they are cute - and it helps them get away with things.

Suzanne, I'm glad your painting didn't suffer for being used as a landing pad.

Maybe they weren't jumping at the window, maybe they wanted to express themselves artistically... perhaps you should give them their own canvases and paints and you'd have a whole new series!

It is a good thing they are cute!!!

The painting is looking lovely, despite the cats.

Meowart, you might be right. However I think the're interested in architecture - and they seem to be leaning towards the deconstructivist movement. You know, characterized by ideas of fragmentation, an interest in manipulating ideas of a structure's surface or skin, and characterized by a stimulating unpredictability and a controlled chaos.

Thanks Gabrielle! Yes cuteness almost always saves the day.

Those darn kitties! I can just imagine "squeaking" paintings! Glad you were able to repair the painting.

These two definitely look as though they might wish to become artists when you're not around. Very cute, glad the paintings could be rescued and restored!

Krista, wouldn't that be something?

Thanks Dreaming! I do think they may have aspirations...
